Ross and Rachel. Danny and Sandy. Healthy, vibrant kitchens and juicers. One can’t survive without the other… which is, of course a huge exaggeration. But juicers really are awesome, and will have you living your best nutrient-packed life in no time. As long as you get the best juicer machine on the market that is the right one for you.

As with every kitchen appliance, we’re absolutely flooded with choice, from value juicers to fancy pants juicers that cost more than your mortgage, to juicers with names you can’t pronounce to ones that also put the kids to bed at night. So what’s a juice-curious guy or gal to do?

Allow me to guide you through the sometimes-complex world of juicing fruits and veggies, why you need one in your life and which is the best juicer machine for you. As long as you know that you will become obsessed with juicing every fruit and veggie in the house, and will not stop talking about it to anyone and everyone you know, and will insist that your family try all of your delicious juices after you’ve woken them up at 6 am with the noise of said juicing… just so you know.

Why every home needs a juicer

The benefits of juicing are endless… there’s a reason why every celeb, influencer and person that you’ve ever met is raving about it right now.

  • Fruits and veggies are jam-packed with loveliness
As we know, the vitamins, minerals and antioxidants found in abundance in fruits and veggies can be accessed easily and quickly by juicing them. All of the goodness found in these little superfoods boosts your energy, clears your skin and helps to protect you from serious diseases.
  • It’s quick and easy
And it’s not as much of a pain to juice your own fruits and veggies as you might think, provided you by the right juicer machine. The process can be quick and easy with a decent juicer, giving you fresh juice to enjoy then and there, or take you with on the go for a busy day ahead.
  • Juices are appealing to kids, and great for the whole family
It’s also a great way of giving your kids the goodness they need quickly, easily and in a manner, that’ll leave them much less likely to whine. It’s not a guarantee, but it’s worth a shot…

It’s also a great way of giving your kids the goodness they need quickly, easily and in a manner, that’ll leave them much less likely to whine. It’s not a guarantee, but it’s worth a shot…

They’re also a great way of helping even the busiest family members to access the fruits and veggies they need to thrive. A well-cited ‘barrier’ to healthy eating is lack of time. But with the right juicer, making a glass of pure goodness is an absolute doddle, and can be taken in a reusable cup or glass on the go. No excuses!

Are there any downsides to juicing?

There are obviously loads of benefits to juicing that make it a must, especially if, like me, you’re following a raw vegan diet. But the one thing that lets juice down in the health stakes is its lack of fiber.

As juicing removes the pulp from fruits and veggies, its large quantities of fiber are also removed, which is, of course, essential for a health digestive system. And it’s something the majority of Americans just don’t get enough of.

Having said that, on a raw vegan diet or fruit-based diet, it’s near-on impossible to not get the fiber your body needs, for obvious you-eat-a-hell-of-a-lot-of-fruits-and-veggies-on-this-diet reasons. So it’s not really a negative as long as you’re eating plenty of whole fruits and veggies, and can actually be a great thing for those who need to limit their fiber intake.

When you should buy a blender and when to buy a juicer

Blenders and juicers might seem like one and the same on the surface, but they’re actually worlds apart in terms of what they’re used for.

Whereas blenders pulverize whatever you put in the – great for smoothies, dips, soups, raw vegan cheesecakes (I’m obsessed) – juicers extract the juice only, and leave everything else behind. So the pulp from fruits and veggies – or the fiber, essentially – is left behind. But some juicers are better than blenders at retaining vitamin C and potassium in fruits and veggies.

To thrive on a fruit-based or raw vegan diet, I recommend having a fantastic juicer and blender in your arsenal, for creating stunning dishes that are great, not only for your health, body and mind, but for showing off to your friends, family and complete strangers on the internet. Cos that’s what it’s all about, right…

What are the different types of juicers?

Although there are a number of juicers in the market, it is important to understand the difference between the main types in order to make an informed decision. Choosing the best juicer machine for you might seem like a minefield, but understanding the difference between juicers is the key, and actually makes the choice quite simple!

Centrifugal juicers

Centrifugal is the most common type of juicer.

They’re not only the least expensive, so great for those on a budget, but they’re normally pretty easy to use and will provide you with juice in super-quick time thanks to their wide chutes.

On the downside though, because this kind of blender process the fruits and veggies so quickly, the oxidation process is also fast, which means less nutrients in your juice, and less time to drink it in.

Plus, if you happen to have a grouchy family member who will not appreciate being woken daily by the sound of a plane taking off, they may not be the best choice. Some won’t be too noisy of course, but it’s worth checking the reviews to see what others think.

You also might not get great value for your buck with centrifugal juicers, since such machines tend to yield less juice. You’d therefore need to buy more produce in the first place.

But, there are centrifugal machines out there that don’t exceed decibel limits, produce plenty of delish juice and won’t have you remortgaging the house. Which is always a good thing…

Masticating Juicers

Don’t worry; I had no idea what on earth that word meant before I looked it up either.

‘Masticating’ simply means to chew food, so, with such juicers, you’re in for a slower ride, but one that leaves you with more nutrients, and much slower oxidation. They grind and ‘chew’ the produce you throw at them, preserving nutrients and enzymes, and a much higher juice yield.

Sounds perfect.

But, if you’re trying to stick to a budget, they may not be the best option. Masticating juicers tend to be more expensive than centrifugal juicers, so if you’re on a tight budget, they may not be the best option. It’s definitely worth looking for a great value masticating juicer if you are on a budget though (they are out there!) because, not only do such juicers preserve nutrients and enzymes, but they also produce less foam and a high juice yield.

There’s nothing worse than putting a whole orange tree, 59 apples and a mango into a juicer, only to be met with 2 fluid ounces of juice. And with some of the cheaper juicer machines, this could be what you get.

It’ll remind you of those stories that end with ‘and they woke up and it was all a dream’. Except it won’t be a dream, and you will have just wasted your hard-earned cash. Careful out there, fellow juicers.

Triturating Juicers

I promise this is actually a thing, and not just a made-up word. Who comes up with these things, and how on earth does one pronounce it?

Anyway, if you can get over the fact that you’ll probably never be able to tell anyone what kind of juicer you bought, triturating juicers are great at producing lots of juice out of your fruits and veggies. With a lot of juicers, especially very cheap ones, you end up with a lot of pulp, and not much juice. Investing in a good quality triturating juicer, though, will make sure you get enough bang for your buck. They’re more commonly known as ‘twin gear’ juicers and ‘triturate’ means to grind into a fine powder.

They not only produce high quality juice, but they create less oxidation (when fruits and veggies are exposed to air and start to brown). It can be a bit time intensive with this kind of juicer compared to others, though, as they use low speeds.

Citrus Juicers

Unlike triturating juicers, citrus juicers do exactly what they say on the tin: they juice citrus fruits. Shocking.

It’s of course a lot easier to juice citrus fruits, like oranges and lemons, manually, but a good electric one will save you time and make it a lot easier for your arm muscles. Unless you go for my manual citrus juicer pick (see below). Despite being manual, it makes light work of OJ, and looks seriously stylish in the process.

What type of juicer machine should you buy?

So now you know what’s what in the juicer world, which is best for you?

Before purchasing, it’s important to think about which type of juicer will work best for your needs. After all, there’s no point in buying one just because it’s the cheapest, or just because it looks the fanciest.

Follow my tips to decide which kind of juicer will jazz up your kitchen!

  • Price is important but should NEVER be the deciding factor
It’s obviously super important to stick to your budget. Spending a month’s wages on a juicer and having no money left over to buy the produce for it is kinda pointless. But, this shouldn’t be the deciding factor.

It’s so important to buy a juicer because it’s right for you, not just because it’s the cheapest or has money off. If I had a dollar for every cheap appliance I’ve bought, which has lasted no more than 3 uses and left me with nothing but lumps of mush, I’d have enough to buy decent appliances that will stand the test of time.

So don’t break the bank, but don’t reach for the cheapest, unless you’re in the market for monthly juicer purchases…

  • Why do you need the juicer?
We all have different juicing needs (yes, this is a thing) and knowing yours will help you find the most appropriate juicer. You might be a juicing newbie who just wants to start out with some freshly squeezed grapefruit juice or OJ of a morning, in which case, a citrus juicer is perfect.

But if you’re a juicer senior, or aspire to be one (totally kidding – it’s really not hard), a centrifugal juicer might not be up to the task of processing tough greens like kale. A masticating juicer will be the best for that job.

For softer fruits and veggies though, centrifugal should show up!
  • How do you feel about cleanup time?
I don’t know about you, but the last thing I want to be doing is scrubbing my juicer clean every morning. Or worse – coming home after a long day at work to a machine caked in dry juice that’ll require superhuman strength to have any chance of coming off. I can imagine you feel the same.

So clean-up time is actually a bigger thing that you might think. It can be the difference between using your juicer once, deciding you don’t have time to clean the 50 parts it comes with (and they happen not to be dishwasher safe) and putting it at the back of the cupboard, never to see the light of day again.

Or, if you get a machine that’s easy to clean, you’ll make a new BFF, and will not go a day without using it. So check the reviews to see whether users find said juicer machine easy to clean.

Are the parts dishwasher safe? Check before you buy if you want to remain a full-time worker or parent, and not juice-machine-scrubber.

  • How much time do you have on your hands?
If you’re a juicing beginner, you might not know how long the process can actually take.

Prepping produce, juicing, drinking and cleaning with the wrong juicer can eat into your day quite a bit. Masticating juicers, because they slowly process fruits and veggies for high yields, tend to take a little longer.

If you’re short for time, look for the reviews that praise quick juicing times, especially if you have less than 20 minutes for the entire process.

And the cleaning bit, if the parts aren’t dishwasher safe or awkward to dismantle, is gonna be more of a pain than getting to the front at a One Direction concert. It’ll take up all of your time and energy, and you’ll be totally done with juicing before you’ve even started.
  • Are you juicing for the sake of juicing or do you wish to retain essential nutrients in the end product?
Ideally, you want a juicer that not only makes you great juice – obviously – but one that retains as many nutrients as possible in every glass.

The best juicers for the task are ones that grind and process your fruits and veggies slowly, and don’t introduce excessive heat to the process. This prevents the oxidation process from developing too quickly.

Unfortunately, juicers that process food slowly will chew up much of your time, but you’ll be so happy from all the nutrients you’re getting that this shouldn’t be too much of a problem!

Editor’s ChoiceOmega NC900HDC

The good

I’ll start as I mean to go on – with a knockout juicer that’s got a list of benefits longer than the first Monday back at work after a long holiday. So, lots. This Omega NC900HDC, or to give it its full title, this Omega NC900HDC Juicer Extractor and Nutrition Center Quiet Motor Slow Masticating Dual-Stage Extraction with Adjustable Settings (I’ll stick with Omega…) is the crème de la crème of juicers.

This epic dual stage masticating juicer uses an auger system which forces your produce into a small chamber, pressing out as much goodness as possible and extracting max juice, nutrients, vitamins and taste from even small amounts of fruits and veggies.

You might think such a powerful machine might have your family thinking you’ve set up an airport terminal in the kitchen, but with its quiet but powerful motor, it shouldn’t disturb their slumbers. Well, it probably will, but they should get up anyway and come try some of your delicious juice.

It has 5 different settings, keeps your juice fresher for longer with low speeds, resulting in minimal oxidation, and it even comes with an industry-leading 15-year warranty, covering both parts and performance, which is super reassuring when you become addicted to using it daily – and you will!

And this Omega NC900HDC is not only a juicer. Oh, no. It’s a nut milk maker, a nut butter maker, a baby food maker, a frozen dessert maker and mincer all in one handy machine. For real. Suffice to say, you’re gonna want to use it all the time.

So, what about cleaning?

This piece of tech wizardry is even easy to clean, as it automatically ejects pulp.

With an impressive 4.5 out of 5 reviews on Amazon, it’s clearly a juice-fan favorite.

One review states how it takes a little longer than other juicers with its slow speed, but it’s ‘well worth it’, as it juices way more than her previous machine, and it’s super easy to clean. Another praises its use of most of the produce – they say they hardly throw any pulp away.

The bad

‘Bad’, in the case of this Omega juicer, is so the wrong word. If I had to criticize it, the cost is the only thing I could pick up on. It’s not exactly cheap, and not great for those on a budget. Having said that, with its 15-year guarantee and high yield of juice production, if you have the funds, go for it. It’ll pay for itself in longevity and beautiful juice. And it looks pretty stylish too, compared to some monstrosities on the market!

The bottom line
This Omega NC900HDC is one of the best on the market. It maximizes juice extraction, has a powerful but quiet motor and even comes with an amazing 15-year guarantee. If that’s not an indicator of quality, I don’t know what is!

Best Centifugal Juicer – Breville JE98XL

The good

This Breville JE98XL Juice Fountain is a tried and tested star in the centrifugal juicer world and one of the best affordable juicers on the market.

Featuring an extra wide feeder chute, making an 8oz. cup of juice is super easy and super fast – this juice whizz’ll deliver the goods in about 5 seconds.

And, luckily, just because it’s fast doesn’t mean that nutrition is compromised. Its stainless steel cutting disc and micro mesh filter extracts up to 30% more juice than other similar juicers on the market, as well as up to 40% more vitamins.

Not only is it a doddle to make juice, but it’s a doddle to clean it; the jug, filter and cleaning brush are all safe for the dishwasher. Ain’t nobody got time for washing by hand. Not when you’ve got kids, anyway…

This Breville JE98XL has a 2-speed control (use the higher speed for thicker and denser produce) and a built-in froth separator. Fancy!

There are more than 5,000 reviews of this juicer on Amazon, with users rating it 4.3 on average. Not bad for a budget juicer!

One reviewer says the extra wide chute is super handy, as whole apples will often fit in without having to be sliced. Another describes how the leftover pulp it ejects is very dry, showing that most of the juice is indeed extracted by the Breville.

Oh, and did I mention the incredible price? This is an amazing juicer for those on a budget, and is sure to please.

The bad

As with all centrifugal juicers, their rapid speed means quicker oxidation of the produce, so your juice won’t stay fresh for quite as long as when you’re using a low-speed juicer. But its great value more than makes up for that… just make sure you drink your juice as soon as possible, for max nutrition!

The bottom line
This is an amazing juicer for those on a budget or those who need to space save in their kitchen.

Best twin-gear juicer – Tribest GSE-5050

The good

This Tribest GSE-5050 Greenstar looks more like something you’d find in a space expedition than in your average kitchen. Coming in at a pretty high price, you’d expect it to be the best of the best when it comes to twin-gear juicers and, luckily, it delivers the goods. Or the juice…

The Greenstar GSE 5050 has stainless steel twin gears with special points that help to replicate chewing. This imitation of human teeth allows it to slice, cut and grind produce and juice whatever you throw at it like a boss.

It boasts exclusive bioceramic and magnetic technology that produces juice with a superior nutritional value – this works by creating a magnetic field that latches on to more of the vitamins and minerals in the fruits and veggies. What’s more, it even delays oxidation, so your juice can be kept in the refrigerator for up to 72 hours with minimal nutrition loss. And it’s got an awesome 12-year guarantee. It’s just bragging now.

Like the Omega, this juicer is not just a juicer. Nut butters, sorbets and sauces are all on the menu with this piece of kit, making it a truly special addition to your kitchen.

With 4 out of 5 on average in its Amazon reviews from more than 300 users, its not as highly-rated as some of the other juicers I’ve mentioned. The majority though, can’t recommend it highly enough. One user describes how it takes about 30 minutes to produce 12 cups of green juice, which includes the time washing the produce before juicing and cleaning the parts afterwards. I wonder if he’s Fully Raw Kristina in disguise…

The bad

Again, if you’re used to buying budget appliances (like I was before they started breaking after three uses…), the price tag might shock you a little. Okay, a lot. It’s certainly not cheap, but its 12-year guarantee means value for money. And a heck of a lot of high quality, enzyme-rich juice.

The bottom line
This Green Star juicer really does produce crazy high quality juice, whilst preserving living enzymes and offering a hopping 12 year guarantee. If you’ve got a little more money in the budget, go for it.

Best Electric Citrus JuicerBreville 800CPXL Citrus Press

The good

If this doesn’t add a touch of style to your kitchen, nothing will! This stainless steel Breville 800CPXL Motorized Citrus Press is the perfect addition to your appliance collection, and will extract max juice with a ‘whisper-quiet’ motor.

This citrus juicer has a Quadra-Fin juicing cone, specially designed to extract the maximum juice from any size of citrus fruit. The die-cast juicing cone and body are resistant to corrosive citric acid, ensuring epic orange, lemon and grapefruit juices for years to come.

Measuring just 11x9x18 inches, it’s a great space saver and it has dishwasher safe parts for easy cleaning.

With an average rating of 4.4 out of 5 in more than 700 customer reviews, it clearly performs. One user praises its ability to extract every drop of juice effortlessly, without feeling like you’re at the gym. Another describes how it’s worth ‘every cent’ and can whip up a fresh glass of juice in less than a minute.

The bad

It’s arguably a little pricier than other citrus juicers at just under 200 dollars, but its efficient performance commands a higher price tag. If you haven’t yet purchased a juicer at all and want to make juices from other fruits and veggies (not just citrus fruits), then you’ll have to look at purchasing an additional appliance.

The bottom line
For a citrus juicer, it’s awesome. It makes light work of super fresh and beautiful juices and in quick time to boot. It’s a great addition to your kitchen if you’re an orange, grapefruit or lemon juice fan.

Best Manual Press Citrus Juicer – Hamilton Beach 932

The Good

Maximum Juice, Minimum Effort. That’s Hamilton’s tagline, and boy are they right. First manufactured in 1932, this Hamilton Beach Manual Citrus Juicer is famous in its own right for style, quality and efficiency.

Its heavy-duty gears make it a commercial favorite – one press is all it takes to create super fresh juice. Not only is it environmentally-friendly (no electricity required, of course!), but it’s easy to clean – the juice cup, strainer cone and funnel can all be removed easily.

Up to 22 pounds of force ensures minimum effort for max juice with this Hamilton Beach Juicer and its acid-resistant finish ensures longevity.

With its slick black and silver design, if James Bond were to decide to do a juice cleanse after all that whisky and chasing bad guys, this is the one he’d use. Probably.

With an average of 4.5 stars out of 5 in almost 300 reviews, it’s certainly recommended. One user says it’s ‘worth every penny’ and ‘so easy to use’. They also describe how they used it to juice kiwi and pomegranates. Another says theirs was purchased in 2011 and has seen 8 summers and thousands of lemonades. It’s certainly stood the test of time!

The Bad

At just over $200, you might think it’s a bit much for a manual juicer. But it’s a favorite among commercial businesses for a reason. Its ease has to be seen to be believed!

The bottom line
This crazy stylish juicer is effortless, even more so than electric juicers, you could argue. It’s pricey, but worth it. A glass of beautiful, fresh OJ every morning in a matter of minutes? Don’t mind if I do.

FAQs about the best juicer machine

What is better – a masticating or centrifugal juicer?

There are of course both advantages and disadvantages of each type of juicer. If we focus on what the main advantage of juicing is, though – accessing all of the glorious nutrients in fruits and veggies – it’s got to be masticating for the win. With its slow processing of fruits and veggies, masticating juicer machines extract maximum juice and nutrients, filling your glass with loveliness.

Because centrifugal juicers tend to produce juice quicker, some nutritional value can be lost, and oxidation sets in quicker. Having said that, if time is a priority, the quicker processing times of centrifugal juicers may be better for you. Similarly, if you’re looking to stick to a budget, centrifugal is the way to go, as they tend to be cheaper than masticating juicers.

There’s really no definitive answer to this question, but if you’re juicing for health and have enough cash, I’d say masticating juicers are the best buy!

What’s the best juicer machine for celery juice?

If you’ve never tried celery juice, try not to be put off by the sound of it – it actually tastes super fresh and crisp, and does absolute wonders for your health. Check out my article on why you should switch from coffee to this green superjuice to wake you up in the morning, from celery juice aiding digestion to strengthening the immune system. It’s a hard sell initially, but by the end, you’ll be a convert!

So which is the best juicer for celery juice?

The answer is undoubtedly the Omega NC900HDC masticating juicer. Because the whole point of celery juice is to unlock its myriad health benefits, we want to yield as much juice as we can from the celery we have, as well as max nutrients.

A masticating juicer, which chews and grinds the produce slowly, is therefore the best option for this brilliant beverage.

Here are 3 of the best juicer machines for celery at a glance:

Table could not be displayed.

What’s the best juicer machine for greens?

Again, we’re trying to access max nutrients with greens. Vitamins A, C and K, and minerals like iron, calcium and potassium are found in abundance in green veggies, and help us to live our best (long and healthy) lives.

We therefore want a juicer that’s gonna give us as much of this life-giving elixir as possible. The Omega NC900HDC is undoubtedly the best juicer for greens; by slowly grinding the produce, will give us just that. And won’t wake the family while you’re at it.

What’s the best juicer machine under $100?

But what about if you’re on a budget? Some juicers are not cheap, and if you’re trying to save the dollars, what gives you the best juice for your buck?

Although the cheapest juicers are likely to perform poorly, there are some cheaper machines that actually do a great job. This Breville BJE200XL Juicer is one of the best affordable juicers on the market. At just under 100 dollars, it won’t break the bank, but comes with a heavy-duty motor, safety lock (cos you don’t wanna be juicing your body parts, ideally), pulp container, extra large 3-inch feeder tube, stainless steel cutting disc, dishwasher safe parts, and a 1-year warranty. Not bad, not bad at all!

Averaging 4.4 out of 5 in a whopping 6,000 Amazon reviews, it’s safe to say it’s tried, tested, and approved. One reviewer describes how it’s easy to clean, easy to move around the kitchen and quiet. Another user states it’s one of the better investments they’ve made.

For just over a hundred bucks, this Aobosi Slow Masticating Juicer also offers very good performance, for a great price.

It promises to deliver a cup of juice in seconds, despite processing the produce slowly for max nutrients. With up to 20% more juice and 30% more vitamins and minerals than other centrifugal juicers, is quick and easy to clean and comes with a 1-month free trial and a 2 year warranty.

And with 4.3 out of 5 on average in 300 plus reviews, it’s a great value juicer for getting those 5 a day in! Sorry, 10-15 a day, I mean. We’re talking raw vegan here, guys.

One user praises its stylish shape and another says they were surprised with how quickly the juice was produced. A great buy for a great price!
